Silent Valley National Park (Core zone: 236.74 square kilometres (91 sq mi)) is located in the Nilgiri Hills,Coimbatore - Palakkad District in Kerala, South India.
The area in this national park was historically explored in 1847 by the botanist Robert Wight, and is associated with Hindu legend.
Silent Valley National Park - Location
The Silent Valley National Park is situated in the Palghat or Palakkad district of the southern Indian state of Kerala. A part of the Western Ghat along the Arabian Sea, the park extends from latitude 11°04' in the North to longitude 76°79' in the East.
The park is contiguous with Attappadi Reserve Forests in the east, and vested forests of the Palghat and Nilambur divisions in the west and south. In the North, the park is an extension of the Nilgiri Forests.
The Silent Valley National Park has an amazing range of wildlife ranging from wild tigers and mammals to South Indian Peninsula, such as, the Nilgiri Langur, Malabar Giant Squirrel, Lion- Tailed Macaque, Flying Squirrel and Civet Cat. The Silent Valley National Park is famous for Butterflies.
Over 100 species of butterflies and 400 species of moths and other fauna like the Ceylon Frog Moth, Great Indian Hornbill and the Nilgiri Laughing Thrush are found here.
The best time to visit Silent Valley is from September to March, during the pleasant winter.

Location 40 Kms From Mannarkkad, Kerala.
The Silent Valley National Park situated in the
north-eastern corner of Palakkad district, rises abruptly
to the Nilgiri plateau in the north and overlooks the
plains of Mannarkkad in the south.
Most of the park lies
within the altitude range of 880 m to 1200 m. The valley
areas of the park comprises tropical and subtropical
moist broadleaf forests.
The hilly areas above 1000 m are
in a South Western Ghats montane rain forests region.
Above 1500 m, the evergreen forests begin to give way to
stunted forests, called sholas, interspersed with open
grasslands. Sispara is the highest peak in the Silent
Valley National Park.
