Alappuzha or Alleppey a small district in Kerela, South India Kerala Alappuzha Toursis known for its silver beeches, back waters and canals.

It is popularly known as Venice of the East. The town was founded by Raja Kesavadasan, the Diwan of Travancore in 1762.

The Krishnapuram Palace built during t he reign of Marthanda Varma in the 18 th century is at a small distance from Alappuzha. It is known for its typical Kerela architecture and the famous mural called ‘ Gajendra Moksham'. There is also a museum of antique sculptures, paintings and bronze articles in the palace.

There are many famous temples to visit like the Krishnapuram Temple is a two-storied building in Alappuzha. Ambalapuzha Temple is another temple where Lord Krishna is worshipped. Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple of Alappuzha is a holy place where the king of serpents is worshiped. The Chettikulangara Bhagavathy Temple of Alappuzha is believed to have miraculous powers.

Kottamkulangara Mahavishnu Temple and Devi Temple are the oldest temples of Alappuzha city and are sites worth visiting, especially during the time of festivals.

Similarly there are many churches like the Arthunkal Church or the St. Andrews Church here was built by Portuguese missionaries.

The annual feast of St. Sebastian is held here in the month of January. Champakulam Church or the St.Mary's Church was established by St Thomas, it is one of the oldest churches in Kerela.

Pathira Manal is a small island on the backwaters is a favorite haunt of hundreds of rare migratory birds from different parts of the world.
